The words of ride coordinator Darren Myers:
“In July of 2009, I made a visit to see Joe and Colleen. During previous visits, Joe had expressed an interest in getting his motorcycle custom painted. One of my Martial Arts students, Bill Tippit of Billzart, was a custom airbrush artist and said he would be honored to paint the bike. So, on that day I “stole” his bike and rode it back to Chesapeake to be customized. During that ride home on his bike, the ideas for this ride were born.”
“Joe's custom painted pirate theme bike was unveiled to him at the party with approximately 100 people in attendance. At Tim's II Restaurant, Joe said on video that it was great to be there for the “first annual” Ride for the Pirate. Those famous words are what turned this into an annual event to benefit his sons.”
